This a topic that falls in line with what this blog is all about. Paul W.S. Anderson gets all kind of crap from fanatics who say he is no good. I think thats just because they demand perfection from silly franchises. They take these things way too seriously.
I’ve enjoyed almost everything this guy has brought to the screen. In fact, one of my favorite movies is his Event Horizon. But I enjoyed Resident Evil, Aliens Vs Predator, Soldier, and even Death Race. The guy is a competent director with a pretty good eye for action.
Saying all that, I’m pretty stoked that he is coming back to Resident Evil. I’m definitely looking forward to it.
So I casually found out the release date for Carriers, the apocalypse movie starring Captain Kirk (Chris Pine). That date? September 4th 2009. This is fairly soon. Yay!
So whether you knew it or not, Platinum Dunes (Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake, Unborn) is remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street. What you see above is the first pic of the new Freddy, played by Jackie Earle Haley (Watchman). I’m very relieved that they didn’t stray too far from the Freddy we all know. I hear his face is pretty different though. Can’t wait to see it. What do you think?
Watchmen is out today on DVD and Blu Ray. I never got into the graphic novel but was intrigued by the concept: What if some people actually suited up in costumes and fought crime? Not with super powers, mind you, just regular folk.
I went in curious, and came out a fan. I really enjoyed this movie. Something about it just hooked me. So I recommend that you give it a chance, you may be surprised.
Ok, so shortly after the DLC announcement (below), Harmonix kicked Guitar Hero in the balls with the reveal of the Rock Band Network. Basically, if you control the master recordings of a song (your own, probably) then you can get it charted and into the game! Its a way to ease the bottleneck of artists wanting to get in, but also a way to get unknown bands and unsigned artists into the game. There are plenty of quality controls in place… this could be huge. Read more by clicking below:
Drew Barrymore puts on her directors hat for Whip It! It stars Ellen Page, Kristen Wigg, Zoe Bell and Julliette Lewis. And its about Roller Derby… in Texas. That’s really all I need to know. So take a look at the trailer below, and see what you think. Looks like fun to me.
Just wanted to share with you the poster for Zombieland. I’m on my phone so I can’t see all the detail, but it looks good me. I can’t wait to see this.
Just a word about Fallout 3. It freakin’ rocks. I’ve had this game since it came out, and since then the makers have seen fit to release 4 expansions to keep it alive. I just finished number four, called Point Lookout.
Lats back up for those just joining us. Fallout 3 is a game currently out for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. It takes place in a post-nuclear world, Washington DC to be exact. Your character was in a Vault. Vaults were set up as shelters from a nuclear war in a Cold War era U.S. So at the start of the game you father leaves the Vault (unheard of) and you decide to follow. So out you go into the wasteland. Its very tongue in cheek yet creepy at the same time. The world was at the height of the ideal 1950’s styles of a retro-future, so that is what you see destroyed around you.
So, each of these additional episodes take you somewhere new. Point Lookout takes you south to the coast of Maryland, where boms did not directly hit. What we do have there is a bunch of crazy inbred hillbillies that were Hell to kill. Hard.
Anyway, I just wanted to shout the accolades of this game and make sure that you play it. To the wastelands!
Wow. Ok. If you like sci-fi treated seriously with smart characters coming to swift, smart conclusions about their situations, then go check out Moon. Duncan Jones directs this very interesting film about Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), who is just about to finish up his 3 year contract with Lunar Industries monitoring mining equipment on the moon. After some complications ( that I will not spoil here) things get a little wacky.
What I liked about the way this plays out, is that the situation is dealt with almost immediately instead of trying to drag it out into some forced mystery. Sam is smart enough to figure it out about the same time we do so we all can go forward and explore the next part of the tale. There are cliches that are almost a given in sci-fi movies and Moon refreshingly avoids them all.
Its hard to review Moon since its best seen not knowing too much going in. So with that, I recommend Moon highly. Its currently in limited release, but its opening wide soon. GO!
